Frequently Asked Questions
Flag Football & Cheerleading FAQs
When Does Upward Flag Football & Cheerleading start?
Registration is ongoing and OPEN NOW! Practices will begin on August 23. We will be having age group practices for both flag football prior to establishing teams. This will allow all children to receive skills training on the fundamentals. Cheerleading will be assigned squads and will practice with their respective squads this week.
How do I register?
You can pick up a registration form at anyone of our partner churches. Please visit our homepage for specific church locations. Completed registrations must be turned into Grace Church at 46 S. West St in Carlisle.
What are the age requirements for Upward?
Divisions are decided by school grade. We currently have divisions for Kindergarten – 8th grade. The minimal age requirement is 5 to participate in Upward.
Is Upward co-ed?
We have different divisions in Flag Football and Basketball for boys and girls. With the exception of our Kindergarten Division (basketball ), which is co-ed, boys and girls are in different divisions and do not play against each other.
How Much does Upward Cost?
Register by July 30, and only pay $60!
Optional Flag Football shorts or Cheerleading Turtleneck = $13 each
Additional $5 fee will be assessed after August 1 to cover the separate shipping costs.
What if I cannot afford the entry fee?
We offer partial or total needs based confidential scholarships. Forms are available on our website or at Grace Church..
Don’t let finances stop you from signing your child up for Upward!
What night will my child practice?
The practice schedules are posted approximately 2 weeks prior to the first practice. You will be able to see practice and game schedules here.
Where will my child practice?
Our league continues to grow. We are adding more gyms and practice fields. After the evaluation dates, you will be notified of your practice location.
Flag Football will be at Waggoners Field on 1271 Longs Gap Road, Carlisle.
Can my child be on the same team as his/her friend?
We cannot promise this because a computer program picks teams to be fair and equitable based on unbiased evaluation scores. This is done to make sure every child has a chance to shine at the game. This also insures that coaches do not overload a team that would win every game.
What if my child misses an evaluation day, can he/she still play?
ABSOLUTELY! You are NEVER too late play Upward!
As long as Upward still has games to play, you can register to play!
Does my child need any special equipment?
Flag Football: Yes. Cleats are recommended, but not required. A mouth guard is required and CarlisleUpward.org will provide you with one; additional mouth guards will be available for purchase.
Basketball: Do not require any special equipment.
Cheerleading: Do not require any special equipment.
Will my child get equal playing time?
Yes!
Each coach has a predetermined player substitution schedule, which they must follow.
Do I have to attend church to play Upward?
No. You don’t have to attend any church to play Upward.
